Have you pinched anything recently? I don't mean stealing something – the British slang sense of the word – and I don't mean zooming out from a photo on your smartphone. When was the last time you gave a good old-fashioned three-dimensional pinch?

It might have been half-consciously during a household task. Adding a pinch of salt to a dish that needs waking up or pinching the corners of a bedsheet during the arduous process of folding it neatly.
